Orchestre National de France: Mendelssohn, "Lobgesang" - Luc Héry
Jan 14th
Radio and Music House - Auditorium
Symphony or cantata? Mendelssohn chose not to choose in his Symphony Lobgesang , which, in its structure, is reminiscent of Beethoven's Ninth . Three movements of pure music are followed by a cantata based on biblical texts, with this epigraph by Luther that Mendelssohn could have adopted as his credo: "I would like to see all the arts, and especially music, at the service of Him who gave and created them." At the same time, Henri Vieuxtemps displayed the formidable violin technique that would make him famous, which the Fifth Concerto perfectly encapsulates. "If he were not such a great virtuoso, he would be acclaimed as a great composer," Berlioz proclaimed. Luc Héry, first solo violin of the Orchestre National de France, tackled it.
